Hi Lorne, I'm new to the highlands and have been enjoying your posts. Thought you might like to know that I saw Grey Currawongs and a pair of Southern Emu-wrens at Penrose State Forest today. I also saw a Nankeen Night Heron at a dam at the Eastern side of Ferndale Reserve a week ago. Not sure how common they are around Bundanoon?
Hey, Marty. Thanks for the message. I'm yet to see any of the birds you mention in Bundanoon. I've seen Grey Currawongs, very briefly, at Penrose. A local birder has seen the Southern Emu-wrens in PSF. Well done on the Nankeen Night-heron... that swamp/dam and the neighbouring forest and sewage treatment plant are great spots for birds... watch out for White-necked Heron, Intermediate Egret, Australasian Shoveler, Australian Reed-warbler, Azure Kingfisher, Latham's Snipe, Dollarbird, Wedge-tailed Eagle, Weebill, various honeyeaters, Dusky Woodswallow, Scarlet Robin and White-throated Gerygone there. Where are you living? LJ
Hi Lorne, hopefully moving to Bundanoon in the very near future. I was out at the above mentioned dam again yesterday, a lot of activity with many of the birds you mentioned present.
